About Tau Beta Sigma
In 1939, Wava Baines and several of her classmates at Texas Tech University began composing the idea for a music service sorority along the lines of Kappa Kappa Psi. Assisted by the Texas Tech Director of Bands, D.O. Wiley, the roots of Tau Beta Sigma began to grow. However, due to the US entering World War II in 1941, it wasn't until March 26, 1946 when the Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma was established at Oklahoma State University. After the Beta Chapter was established at Texas Tech University, more chapters began to grow across the US as the years went on. Tau Beta Sigma has grown into an organization of over 200 chapters across the United States. It was in 1951 that the Alpha Delta chapter of Tau Beta Sigma was established at Ohio University.
Alpha Delta:
Established in 1951, Alpha Delta was the 28th chapter of Tau Beta Sigma to be founded. Since its founding, Alpha Delta has supported Ohio University's School of Music and its respective band programs. Through the years, and from events such as the founding of the Ohio University Marching 110 in 1967, all the way to the School of Music's 100th Anniversary in 2017, Tau Beta Sigma has worked with its brother chapter, Kappa Kappa Psi Alpha Delta in serving the School of Music by way of fundraising, organizing receptions, and performing service in various capacities. The Chapter currently has 13 members, and is inducting new members every year.
